Week 36

November 23, 2020 to November 27, 2020

As November winds down, many of us are holding both joy and grief. Last Friday was Transgender Day of Remembrance/Resilience, a day to honor the transgender and non-binary people killed this year and uplift trans power and liberation. As families figure out how to safely connect this holiday season, we are in the midst of an unprecedented surge in COVID-19 cases. And this Thursday is the U.S. holiday known as Thanksgiving, which is a Day of Mourning for many Indigenous people.

Here at CAAL, honoring this week means recognizing that we live on the sacred and stolen lands of the Dakota, Ojibwe and Ho-Chunk nations. We remember that Minnesota comes from the Dakota name Mni Sota Makoce, a reminder that this is and has always been Indigenous land, and that Indigenous-led movements and self-determination are central to any fight for a future that works for all of us.

Whatever you are navigating this season, we wish you and your loved ones care and joy. We are grateful to be in community with you.

State of Asian Minnesotans: Rising Up Together
Thursday, December 10, 2020 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM

The current state of our country demands that we act intentionally to rise up together. Let’s explore solutions that change how we envision community-care and ensure that resources are accessible to our most vulnerable communities. We will hear from Karen leaders, one of the more recent refugee groups to Minnesota, about how they are building their community in the face of many challenges. We will also discuss themes from webinars, highlighting historic moments that demonstrated how we have risen up together against oppressive systems that harm our communities. Your participation will help us develop tangible steps towards building a thriving Asian Minnesotan community. Register today!
