Education & Cross-Racial Solidarity (ERS)

Lead. Connect. Learn.

The Educational & Cross-Racial Solidarity (ERS) collective is a five-month program which focuses on building parent leadership skills to help build organizing power, reimage the education system, and taking action on issues that come up throughout the school year.

In this program you will:

• Build cross-racial solidarity

• Take actions on education issues that matter

• Explore Asian American history

• Learn organizing skills

The ERS program consists of bi-weekly meetings, a field trip, and a collaborative, action-oriented project to be presented at a day-long retreat, and will bring together Asian American parents passionate about education, equity, and community. When reviewing applications for ERS, we examine the following requirements:

  • Identify as Asian American (inclusive of biracial and multi-heritage identities with one identity being Asian)
  • Be a parent or guardian with a child in Pre-K through 12th grade.
  • Commit to attending at least 90% of the sessions and the celebration retreat.

If selected, leaders also become a part of a growing alumni network that is building a stronger ecosystem of support for each other’s work and growth. All cohort members are required to attend both retreats.

This program is made available by generous support of our funders, so there is currently no financial cost to the selected participants aside from travel to and from the session locations. A travel stipend will be provided to applicants/participants who request it. If you have any questions, want further information, or need any assistance filling out your application, please contact Program Manager, Russell Chapman, at russell@caalmn.org.

I really appreciated having this space with other Asian ethnic parents and families to broaden my learning experience … I also really appreciated all conversations and work done throughout this program. Probably one of the better parent programs I’ve attended in the last few years … thank you for this great learning and growing opportunity with other parents and families.
