When there is not enough data and information, or stories and lived experiences about a community, generalizations are formed that neither acknowledge the unique assets or unique needs of those communities. This often leads to further invisibility and exclusion. Given this moment – where Asian Minnesotans have become the fastest growing racial group in the state; are composed of over 40+ ethnic groups whose immigrant paths are varied; and, are facing new and old challenges that stand in the way of true community prosperity – we believe we can and must do more to learn more about the state of the community. This series will bring research and information, stories and narratives, and pose questions on timely topics so that we can consider how to move forward. The State of Asian Minnesotans Series aims to deepen our collective understanding of this growing and important population, and push us all to consider what building powerful communities that truly help to shape our democracy can look like.
