Why was this Fund created, and what is it aiming to do?
One of our core values at Coalition of Asian American Leaders (CAAL) is our belief that we are more powerful together, and solidarity across our diverse communities is necessary to advance social justice and ensure that every person thrives. That’s why in this COVID-19 crisis, we have not just been focused on our own organizational survival, but we are investing even more in our overall eco-system of Asian Minnesotan organizations. We must all get through this pandemic together.
CAAL’s Stronger Together Fund aims to support Asian Minnesotan organizations who are supporting the most vulnerable segments of our community at this time. We’ve defined those made most vulnerable in the Asian Minnesotan population at this time are: those who are limited English, those who have limited technology fluency, individuals who are undocumented or mixed status families, those who are low income, large multi-generational households, micro-businesses, the elderly, and young people. Given this, we are prioritizing support for organizations who have trusted relationships to help these community members through this pandemic. In addition, we also heard from Asian Minnesotan organizations that they have had a difficult time transitioning their work and services to virtual and technology-based platforms. So, this fund can be used to support organizational capacity and infrastructure to transition to an ongoing remote work environment.
The Stronger Together Fund was open for a first round of funding in late April. We are pleased to be able to reopen the fund for a second round now.
Who is eligible?
We welcome applications from Asian Minnesotan organizations (who are either incorporated as 501c3 nonprofits or those who are fiscally sponsored). Informal and emerging groups addressing issues related to COVID-19 are also welcome to apply, as long as they have a fiscal sponsor.
What kinds of things will the Fund support?
We are prioritizing this funding for organizations who are providing accessible and in-language support, navigation, and information to the most vulnerable community members. In addition, organizations can apply for the funds to help support capacity to transition to this ongoing environment of virtual service delivery, technology-based work, and physical distancing.
How much can an organization apply for?
Applicants can apply for up to $10,000.
If I already received a Stronger Together grant in Round 1, can I apply again?
Yes, groups who already received funding in round 1 are welcome to apply again. The review committee will consider whether groups have been funded before when reviewing applications.
When is the deadline and when will decisions be made?
Applications must be received by Friday, September 25, 2020 at 5:00 PM CT. Decisions will be made by October 9, 2020.
